Married ‘til Monday

By: Denise Hunter

Denise Hunter is such a talented writer and I have enjoyed her Chapel Springs Romance series.  Married ‘til Monday, the fourth book in the series, provides a window into the lives of Ryan and Abby McKinley.  A college romance that turned into a whirlwind marriage and ended in divorce.  The couple divorced over three years ago and Ryan finds himself still in love with her.  He wants to win her back and her parents have provided the perfect opportunity.  Abby’s parents call Ryan to talk to him about their upcoming 35th-anniversary party.  Abby told them that he is too busy to attend but they plead with him to come.  Ryan soon discovers that they do not know about the divorce.  He devises a plan that he think will win Abby back.

Abby is not happy about traveling with Ryan and spending the weekend with him.  However, she has decided that traveling with him is better than telling her parents the truth.  Abby has a secret past that she has never shared with Ryan or anyone else.  She does not realize how her past has affected her future.  However, Ryan is finally able to bring things into the light that Abby has hidden in the dark.  Abby finally realizes that she needs healing but will it be too late?

I loved this book!  It was a great story about hurt, healing and the power of free will.  The story illustrates how we cannot control what circumstances we face in this life but we can control our response.  We can either blame God or run to Him when we are hurting.  Many times we may run from God during trials in our lives but soon realize that we need to run to Him for healing.

Really Woolly® Nighttime Lullabies

By: Bonnie Rickner Jensen

This book is adorable and a great way to help your child settle down before bedtime.  The author writes a note to parents at the beginning saying that this book will “calm fears and comfort tiny hearts as the day gives way to night and children go from playtime to dreamland.”  How true those words are as this book is filled with nineteen soothing lullabies.  Along with each lullaby is a scripture, a short prayer and a charming illustration.

I love everything about this book.  In addition to using this book at bedtime or naptime, it could be used during long car rides or plane rides.  It is a board book so you do not have to be concerned with your child easily tearing the pages.  The durability and size of this book also make it perfect for traveling.  It is approximately five inches by seven inches.  I think this book would also make a great gift.  There are several items in the Really Woolly® line including a Really Woolly® Plush Lamb.  How cute would that be to give this book along with the plush lamb?  I was somewhat familiar with this brand before but after reading this book this will be one of my top gifts.  I think it will be the perfect gift for a baby shower or a gift for a young child.

Dashing Dish

By: Katie Farrell

This is a wonderful book filled with delicious recipes!  From the creator of dashingdish.com, Katie Farrell penned a beautiful book filled with 100 healthy recipes.  I had not heard of Katie’s website before reading this book but it is definitely a place that I will be visiting often.  The first twenty pages of the book provide several tips for eating healthy.  For example, healthy snack ideas, meal planning and how to eat healthy during special occasions.  The book does not go into a lot of detail but some information is provided.  The rest of the book is filled with delicious healthy recipes.  The chapters include breakfast, lunch, dinner, side dishes, snacks and desserts.  There are so many recipes that I cannot wait to try such as No Noodle Lasagna, Baked Mac and Cheese, Zucchini Tots and Brownie for One in Minutes.  What I also love about this book is that the nutritional information, estimated time and a note from Katie are included with each recipe.  The personal note makes it feel as though I am reading a recipe from a friend.  The book is also in color which makes the dishes look mouth-watering.

I am so glad I was given the opportunity to review this book.  I look forward to referring it to friends who are looking for food that is both delicious and healthy!
